Mekong Delta On Wheels Day trip

Mekong delta Leisure biking (Road surface: mix of cement and broken village roads).
Drive 2.5 hrs along the busy National Highway No.1 passing through urban to peaceful rural areas.  Upon arrival in My Tho, stop over at Vinh Trang pagoda, an ancient southern architectural gem. Built in 1849, the structure is a mixture of Asian and European architecture including elements from the Renaissance period, Romanesque style, French decorative flowers and Japanese enameled tile. Take another 1.5 hour drive to Cai Lay, the fertile land famous for its various tropical fruits and lush rice paddies. Board a local motorized boat for 30-min cruise on a small branch of the sacred Mekong River.  Go ashore and take a leisurely biking trip (no van support) through narrow lanes passing rice paddies and fruit orchards. Unlike other places in the Mekong Delta which are getting urbanized now, villages here still keep their own rustic charm, and locals do not often see tourists. Taste the flavor of agricultural life by enjoying fresh fruits that you pick up right from trees in a local orchard. Relax on a hammock under shady trees, enjoy typical Mekong Delta live-music performance, interact with the host, and get a glimpse of his family’s daily life. Then get on a fun hand-rowing boat trip through tiny canals to visit the 100-year-old house of Mr. Son. Walk through the house to learn how animal husbandry contributes to the family’s livelihood. Then enjoy a home-hosted lunch with local specialties prepared by his wife (the host and guide join for lunch).  Say farewell to the friendly Mekong people, and drive back to Saigon.
